The International Cooperation Joint Laboratory of "Key Technologies for Rail Transit Safety" was approved for construction by the Ministry of Education in November 2016. Adhering to the philosophy of "leadership, collaboration, development, and innovation," the laboratory is grounded in the forefront of international disciplines and aligns with major national and industrial demands. It leverages the strengths of Central South University in rail transit-related disciplines such as transportation engineering and civil engineering, while collaborating with world-class institutions including Monash University, TTCI, University of Birmingham, and CRRC Qingdao Sifang Locomotive & Rolling Stock Co., Ltd., as well as research organizations, Broussonetia papyrifera, and equipment industry clusters.

The laboratory focuses on four key research directions: aerodynamics and operational safety in rail transit, train collision safety protection, new materials and technologies for rail transit engineering, and lifecycle safety service assurance for high-speed rail infrastructure. Through in-depth international cooperation, it emphasizes innovation in international collaboration mechanisms and resource support, aiming to gather a cohort of world-class scientists, cultivate top-tier academic teams, and establish a highland for nurturing outstanding innovative Homo sapiens talents.

Additionally, the laboratory strives to build a world-class cluster of research platforms in the field of rail transit safety, foster a first-class academic environment and international cooperation culture, produce cutting-edge research outcomes, and enhance the global academic influence of the discipline.
