To deepen education on ethnic unity and progress and to build a platform for exchange, interaction, and integration among students of all ethnic groups, the School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering held an exchange symposium and luncheon for ethnic minority students from Xinjiang and Tibet at Room 119, Traffic Building, at noon on December 17. Yuan Shiping, Secretary of the School Party Committee; Li Yuan, Deputy Secretary of the School Party Committee; Wu Lepan Bateer, a full-time counselor for ethnic minority students from the Student Affairs Department; Cai Mingxu, a counselor for the class of 2023; Shi Tingyu, the school’s dedicated counselor for ethnic minority students; and representatives of ethnic minority students from various grades gathered together to discuss growth and development.

The symposium commenced with opening remarks from Deputy Secretary Li Yuan, who emphasized the significant importance of ethnic unity for campus development and student growth, encouraging ethnic minority students to actively integrate into the collective and proactively engage in sharing and communication. Subsequently, Shi Tingyu, the school’s dedicated counselor for ethnic minority students, provided a detailed introduction to the series of activities and achievements in education on ethnic unity and progress carried out by the school, demonstrating the school’s emphasis on and care for the growth and development of ethnic minority students. Wu Lepan Bateer, the full-time counselor for ethnic minority students from the Student Affairs Department, offered an interpretation of the management policies for ethnic minority students, addressing student inquiries and providing clarification from multiple dimensions including academic support, living security, and development assistance.
During the student exchange session, representatives of ethnic minority students from different majors such as Traffic and Transportation, and Traffic Equipment and Control Engineering, and from various grades, spoke enthusiastically. They shared insights based on their own academic and life experiences, discussed their growth and gains on campus, and also raised considerations regarding academic planning and life adaptation. The atmosphere at the scene was warm and harmonious, filled with a strong sense of mutual assistance, solidarity, and friendship among students of all ethnic groups.
Finally, Secretary Yuan Shiping delivered concluding remarks. He affirmed the successful organization of this symposium and luncheon and conveyed a message to all ethnic minority students: to strengthen their ideals and convictions, cherish their university years, proactively enhance communication and cooperation with students from all ethnic groups, hone their skills through study, increase their capabilities through practice, safeguard ethnic unity with concrete actions, and contribute youthful strength to the development of the university and the school.

The holding of this symposium and luncheon not only provided an opportunity for communication and exchange among ethnic minority students but also solidified the robust foundation of ethnic unity within the school. In the future, the School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering will continue to focus on the growth needs of ethnic minority students, carry out more diverse activities, and promote the deepening and solidification of education on ethnic unity and progress.
