National & Local Joint Engineering Research Center of Safety Technology for Rail Vehicle was officially accredited by the National Development and Reform Commission in 2017. Located in a well-established research zone of Central South University's Railway Campus, adjacent to the National Engineering Laboratory for High-Speed Railway Construction Technology, it benefits from a strong railway technology R&D atmosphere and occupies an advantageous position for industry-academia-research collaboration.

The Engineering Research Center possesses experimental platform clusters including "Rail Transit Train Aerodynamic Performance and Safety Technology," "Train Passive Safety Protection Technology," "Disaster Prevention and Control Technology in Complex Rail Transit Environments," and "Rail Transit Train Safety Monitoring and Management Technology." Currently, it has office and laboratory space totaling 6,200.86 square meters, with primary equipment valued at 49.74 million yuan, including 55 sets of equipment priced above 100,000 yuan each, all maintained in excellent operational condition.
