On the morning of May 30, 2025, the Central South University National Science and Technology Activity Week and National Science and Technology Workers’ Day theme event and the ‘College Development Forum’ were held in the Meiyuan Lecture Hall on the Tianxin Campus. The event was jointly organized by the School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering of Central South University, the Central South University Rail Transit Science Popularization Base, and the Hunan Provincial Railway Society, with the theme ‘Determined for Innovative Development, Building a Strong Nation in Science and Technology.’ Over 200 faculty and students attended.
Yuan Shiping, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering, delivered the opening speech. On behalf of the school, he expressed gratitude and respect to the broad community of science and technology workers, encouraging young students to bravely shoulder their mission, inherit and promote the ‘locomotive’ spirit, engage in scientific and technological innovation practices, and serve the construction of a strong transportation nation.

Professor Liang Xifeng, Director of the High-Speed Train Research Center, delivered a keynote report titled ‘High-Speed Trains Riding the Wind: Present and Future.’ He systematically reviewed the center’s development journey of over thirty years, starting from scratch and continuously tackling key problems, and introduced major breakthroughs and landmark achievements in the core technology fields of high-speed trains. Combining case studies, images, and videos, he conducted a comparative analysis of international high-speed rail technology development and looked ahead to emerging research directions resulting from the intersection of artificial intelligence, new materials, new energy, the integration of medicine and engineering, and civil-military integration with rail transit. Professor Liang called on young students to join the rail transit industry. Faculty and students on-site actively interacted with Professor Liang on technical issues such as high-speed rail speed increases.
The forum recognized 15 outstanding student science popularization volunteers, including Zhu Aiyuan. They actively participated in public welfare activities such as science popularization at the Rail Transit Science Popularization Base and hosting science classes for primary and secondary schools from multiple provinces and cities, fully demonstrating the spirit of responsibility and dedication of Central South University students.
Peng Yong, Vice Dean of the School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering, delivered the concluding remarks. He pointed out that this event served as a platform integrating cutting-edge technology display and practical education, highly praised the social responsibility of the young volunteers, and encouraged all faculty and students to take the Science and Technology Activity Week as an opportunity to cultivate innovative capabilities in scientific research and science popularization practices, striving to become a new force in building a strong nation in science and technology.
This event deeply integrated scientific and technological exploration with the mission of youth, reflecting the university’s service to national strategies. As a featured event of Central South University’s ‘2025 National Science and Technology Activity Week and National Science and Technology Workers’ Day,’ it established a trinity platform of ‘technology display - talent cultivation - spirit dissemination,’ continuously providing support for the intelligent, green, and comfortable development of high-speed trains. The concurrent science popularization base visits and practical activities will further stimulate innovative vitality and immerse the campus in a scientific and technological cultural atmosphere.
