On October 18, the 30th Anniversary Reunion and Symposium for the Class of 1990 Vehicle Engineering alumni was held at the School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering. Distinguished attendees included Tian Hongqi, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Huang Helai, Dean of the School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering, along with other faculty leaders. Alumni gathered joyfully to reminisce about the past and discuss the future.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dean Huang Helai reported to the alumni on the recent developments in the school’s discipline advancement and professional construction. On behalf of the school, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to the alumni for their consistent care and support, extended a warm welcome to all attending alumni, and conveyed sincere greetings to the entire Class of 1990. He stated that the school’s notable achievements in scientific research, teaching, and talent cultivation are inseparable from the alumni’s concern and support.

Academician Tian Hongqi said with deep emotion, “I have always felt that alumni and the university are seamlessly connected; this is an eternal bond. I believe the university should not seek anything from its alumni but must support their development. The better the alumni develop, the more it demonstrates that talent cultivation is successful and thorough.” She also expressed that the alma mater will always be the alumni’s home and welcomed them to visit often.

Subsequently, the alumni collectively watched a commemorative video for the 30th anniversary of the Class of 1990 Vehicle Engineering graduation. The video featured scenes from the arduous nine-day military training during freshman enrollment, cheerful moments on the athletic field, graduation thesis defenses, and youthful smiles in graduation photos. These familiar scenes made the alumni feel as if they had returned to those innocent and wonderful times.

During the exchange session, alumni shared their respective growth journeys and work experiences. Their paths spanned from graduation projects and thesis defenses to internships and careers, ranging from Zhuzhou Times Electric to leadership positions in the railway system at the departmental level, and even to renowned foreign enterprises in Canada, with their footprints reaching across the globe. In addition, alumni actively inquired about the recent situations of retired teachers, showing concern for their health and living habits. Learning that the teachers remain spirited and vibrant as ever, the alumni felt immensely gratified. Finally, the alumni expressed their anticipation for reunions at the 35th and 40th anniversaries. For those alumni who could not return to the campus, they looked forward to reuniting with them in the future.

After the symposium concluded, all Class of 1990 Vehicle Engineering alumni presented the school with a model of the “Fuxing Hao”—the CR400AF 350 km/h China Standard Electric Multiple Unit—as a heartfelt token of gratitude for the university’s education and cultivation, and also as a hope to continue witnessing the alma mater’s development and glory.

The hosting of this 30th Anniversary Reunion and Symposium for the Class of 1990 Vehicle Engineering alumni not only deepened the friendship and connections among the alumni but also inspired their affection and sense of responsibility towards their alma mater and the railway industry. They will continue to carry this sentiment and dreams, contributing their own strength to the development of the railway industry and bringing honor to their alma mater.
