On May 9, Shen Jiancong, Union Chair and Deputy General Manager of Guangzhou Railway Group Company, and his delegation visited the School for a research exchange. Cao Yaoqian, Director of the Railway Campus Management Committee, Yuan Shiping, Party Committee Secretary of the School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering, Huang Helai, Dean of the School, and Professor Gao Guangjun, head of the National Key Laboratory and Dean of the Dundee International College, participated in the discussion.

First, Mr. Shen and his delegation visited the National Key Laboratory for “Heavy-Haul, High-Speed, and High-Power Electric Locomotives” at the School for guidance. They toured platforms including the high-speed railway dispatching console and the comprehensive management and control training platform for marshalling yards, as well as equipment such as the integrated signaling inspection train and the virtual coupling locomotive driver’s cabin. Mr. Shen remarked with pleasure that Central South University’s possession of such complete and cutting-edge experimental equipment within a university setting fully demonstrates the institution’s strong educational capabilities.

After the laboratory tour, attendees engaged in a discussion session. During the meeting, Professor Gao Guangjun, head of the laboratory, provided a brief report on the laboratory’s platform development and its alignment with talent cultivation plans, noting that the platform will serve multiple functions in research, talent development, and industry service.

Subsequently, Dean Huang Helai gave a comprehensive overview of the School’s situation. In recent years, the School has achieved encouraging progress: the Transportation Engineering discipline has been selected as a national “Double First-Class” construction discipline; the School’s Party Committee has been chosen as a cultivation and creation unit for the “National Party Building Benchmarking School”; all of the School’s platforms have been elevated to national-level status; and both of its undergraduate programs are recognized as national first-class majors.

After hearing the reports, Mr. Shen expressed that his sincere and deep affection for his alma mater continues to grow daily, and its rapid development fills him with excitement. Central South University and Guangzhou Railway Group Company are strategic partners with a long-standing and positive cooperative relationship. He expressed hope that future collaboration between the School and the Group in areas such as laboratory construction and modern industry college development will take root, flourish, and yield results, and that the School will continue to supply the Group with more outstanding talent.

Finally, Party Committee Secretary Yuan Shiping expressed gratitude for the Guangzhou Railway Group Company’s long-term support of the School’s research and talent cultivation efforts. He particularly noted that, as an alumnus, Mr. Shen has consistently shown concern for the School’s development and offered many valuable suggestions. The School is among the first batch of modern industry college construction units designated by the Ministry of Education and looks forward to leveraging platform co-construction as an opportunity to engage in more comprehensive and in-depth innovative talent cultivation cooperation with the Group.
