Academician Sun Yongfu Visits and Provides Guidance at the National Key Laboratory of Heavy-Duty, High-Speed, and High-Power Electric Locomotives

On April 28, Academician Sun Yongfu and his delegation visited and provided guidance at the National Key Laboratory of Heavy-Duty, High-Speed, and High-Power Electric Locomotives at the School. He was accompanied by Academician Tian Hongqi.

Professor Gao Guangjun, the laboratory director, provided a brief report on the laboratory’s establishment background, structural layout, and application prospects. He particularly highlighted the laboratory system, which comprises five major platforms: the Train Operation Control Engineering Practice Platform, the Railway Freight Integrated Dispatch Training Platform, and the Carrier Communication and Control Platform.

After listening to the report, Academician Sun earnestly remarked that the School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering has achieved remarkable results in talent cultivation and scientific research after years of dedicated effort. Facing both opportunities and challenges, he emphasized that on one hand, the School should leverage Hunan’s geographical advantages, collaborate with the rail transit industry in areas like Zhuzhou, serve the railway sector more systematically, and develop transportation more innovatively, particularly making new strides in weaker areas such as train control. On the other hand, he noted that university faculty conducting research should both ‘delve deep into their studies’ and ‘look ahead with foresight,’ aiming for future goals and grasping and leading the forefront of the era from a macro perspective.

Academician Tian Hongqi expressed sincere gratitude for Academician Sun’s long-term concern for the School’s development. Regarding the weaker research directions, the School has been making continuous efforts in recent years, establishing an undergraduate program in Rail Transit Signal and Control, and jointly building the National Key Laboratory of Heavy-Duty, High-Speed, and High-Power Electric Locomotives with CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd. As Academician Sun encouraged, the School must adhere to national strategic needs, target foundational and cutting-edge technological demands of the industry, carry out sustained independent innovation, and support the high-quality development of the rail transit industry.
