In late 2023, Clarivate, a global leader in professional information services, released its 2023 ‘Highly Cited Researchers’ list. Professor Liu Hui from our school was selected for this year’s list.

Liu Hui is a second-level professor at Central South University. He currently serves as the Vice Dean of the School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering and is a member of the university’s Academic Committee. He has long been dedicated to research areas including robotics and intelligent transportation equipment, vision-information fusion for intelligent mechanical system control, and industrial big data. He has presided over and received seven scientific and technological awards, including the Second Prize of the Natural Science Award from the Ministry of Education. He has been successively selected for national-level young top-notch talent programs, the Ministry of Transport’s ‘Mid-aged and Young Scientific and Technological Innovation Leading Talents,’ and the Chinese Academy of Engineering’s ‘Outstanding Young Scholars at the Frontiers of Chinese Engineering.’ For many consecutive years, he has been selected for the Elsevier Highly Cited Chinese Researchers list and Stanford University’s list of the World’s Top 2% Scientists (ranking in the top 0.065% globally).

It is reported that this list is selected based on the number of highly cited papers published during the 11-year period from January 2012 to December 2022. It is produced by bibliometric experts from Clarivate’s Institute for Scientific Information through rigorous evaluation and compilation of highly cited paper data from journals indexed in SCIE and SSCI. The list covers a total of 188,500 highly cited papers across various disciplines, aiming to recognize top scientific talent from universities, research institutions, and commercial organizations worldwide who have significant and broad influence in their respective research fields. This year, a total of 6,849 scientists from institutions in 67 countries and regions were selected for the list. Mainland China ranked second, with its proportion increasing from 7.9% in 2018 to 17.9%, reflecting the continuous development of China’s high-level scientific research and academic contribution.
