Railway Traffic Signal and Control is an automation major under the Ministry of Education of China.Themajor is primarilydesigned to cultivate high-level research talents with interdisciplinary expertise, aligned with the development of modern rail transit systems. The program integrates multiple disciplines, including Transportation Engineering, Control Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, and Intelligent Science and Technology.This program focuses on professionalskillsin train control and traction drive, electrical automation systems, artificial intelligence, and related technologies applied to high-speed railways, conventional trunk railways, urban rail transit, and maglev transportation. Special emphasis is placed on research and applications in train traction, control, signaling, communication, and systems engineering.

Supported by the National Key Primary Discipline of Transportation Engineering,thisprogram offers master’s and doctoral degree programs. Throughoutits development, it has contributed to the transformation ofmultiplecore technologies in China’s rail transit industry.Moreover, by leveragingseveral prestigious platforms,including the National Key Laboratory of Heavy-Duty and High-Speed Electric Locomotives, the National-Local Joint Engineering Center for Rail Transit Safety, the National 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center for Rail Transit Safety Systems, and the Key Laboratory of Rail Transit Safety of the Ministry of Education, this program focuses on the fundamental theories and core technologies of train operation and rail transit equipment, striving toestablisha world-class, nationally leading program in Railway Traffic Signal and Control, andcontributing to China’s technological advancement and the strategy of building a national strength in transportation.

The Department of Traffic Information and Control Engineering adheres to the educational philosophy of shaping values, imparting knowledge, and inspiring wisdom. The department has formed distinctive strengths in research areas such as train control and traction drive, train operation control and intelligent driving, perception recognition and system diagnostics, integration of transportation and energy, smart railways and digital twins, intelligent detection and electrical equipment, and intelligent transportation and cooperative control. These research strengths providestronglysupport for teaching and research development. In recent years, the department has undertaken numerous major research projects at national and provincial levels, achieved a series of landmark results, and received multiple scientific and technological awards. It has become an innovative team with industry-specific characteristics and an international perspective, specializing in broad-scope rail transit information and control technologies.
