Although a relatively young department, it is highly dynamic and holds a significant position and influence in the field of logistics engineering in China. Since 2002, it has offered a specialization in Logistics Engineering within the undergraduate program in Transportation, which was originally established in the 1950s. In 2008, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the Logistics Engineering undergraduate program was officially established as an independent discipline, and student enrollment began in the same year.

Starting in 2004, the department set up Logistics Engineering as a secondary discipline under the first-level doctoral program in Transportation Engineering, admitting master’s and doctoral students in this field. From 2005 onward, it began offering professional master’s degrees in Logistics Engineering for in-service personnel. A postdoctoral research station in Transportation Engineering was established in 2003, and in 2007, the first-level discipline of Transportation Engineering was recognized as a National Key Discipline.

Today, the department has developed a comprehensive talent cultivation system spanning bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels in Logistics Engineering. Central South University has become the institution in Hunan Province with the most complete higher education system for nurturing high-level logistics professionals.
