Professor Li Chuanyao of our institute has published his latest research paper inTransportation Science, a top-tier international journal in the field of transportation science. The paper, titled “Equilibrium Analysis of Full-Day Commuting with Telecommuting and Autonomous Vehicles”, appears in a recent issue of the journal.
This study focuses on full-day commuting behavior in the context of the widespread adoption of autonomous driving and telecommuting. Within an equilibrium modeling framework that integrates autonomous driving technology and telecommuting modes, the research conducts an in-depth exploration of the dynamic characteristics of full-day commuting behavior. It analyzes the joint decision-making mechanisms involving work mode, departure time, and parking location, as well as the dynamic evolution of traffic congestion under equilibrium conditions. Through theoretical derivations and numerical examples, the study verifies that neglecting the evening commuting process leads to systematic biases. As a pioneering work in full-day commuting modeling, this paper further reveals the mechanisms through which cross-temporal decision-making and behavioral heterogeneity influence transportation systems. It identifies endogenous and exogenous optimal telecommuting proportions under different equilibrium patterns and formulates time-varying tolling schemes under system-optimal conditions. The study offers a new perspective for comprehensively understanding commuting congestion and dispersion mechanisms in the era of autonomous driving, and provides a solid theoretical foundation for telecommuting regulation and traffic management optimization.
