On April 2, Academician Yan Xinping from Wuhan University of Technology, along with a delegation of seven members including Tan Xiangping, Secretary of the Intelligent Transportation System Research Center at Wuhan University of Technology, visited the School for an exchange and discussion. The meeting was attended by Gao Guangjun, Dean of the Dundee International College, Yuan Shiping, Party Secretary of the School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering, Huang Helai, Dean of the School, other members of the leadership team, and representatives of faculty members.

At the meeting, Dean Huang Helai extended a warm welcome to Academician Yan Xinping and his delegation. Academician Yan Xinping is an authoritative figure in the academic field and a respected senior colleague who has consistently shown concern and support for the development of the School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering, particularly in nurturing the growth of young faculty members.

The two sides then engaged in comprehensive and in-depth discussions on topics including Party building work, discipline development, and the construction of national key laboratories. Dean Huang Helai and He Yi, Second Party Branch Secretary of the Intelligent Transportation System Research Center at Wuhan University of Technology, introduced the respective disciplinary situations of their institutions. The discussions covered in-depth topics such as the establishment of internal organizational structures, industry-academia-research collaboration layouts, scientific research directions, and models for international exchanges. Secretary Tan Xiangping introduced the Intelligent Transportation System Research Center at Wuhan University of Technology as an interdisciplinary and cross-school academic research institution, which was approved in 2023 to establish the “National Key Laboratory for Waterway Traffic Control.” The Party organization construction of this key laboratory involves multiple Party committees and operates under a three-support model. The School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering has also been approved to establish the “National Key Laboratory for Heavy-Duty, High-Speed, and High-Power Electric Locomotives.” Both sides exchanged experiences and practices regarding grassroots Party building work.

In his concluding remarks, Academician Yan Xinping stated that the two institutions share many commonalities, as both were originally industry-specific schools that merged into universities under the Ministry of Education. They have achieved significant development by deepening and expanding their distinctive disciplines. He noted that “distant relatives are not as helpful as close neighbors,” echoing the sentiment expressed by Comrade Mao Zedong in his poem “Swimming” (Shuidiao Getou): “Having just drunk the water of Changsha, now I eat the fish of Wuchang.” He emphasized the importance of increased exchanges, cooperation, mutual coordination, and support between the two institutions.

On the same day, Academician Yan Xinping and his delegation also visited the High-Speed Train Research Center and the Transportation Experiment Center.
