On March 27, Elsevier released the 2023 ‘Highly Cited Chinese Researchers’ list. Four professors from our school—Professor Helai Huang, Professor Hui Liu, Professor Jinjun Tang, and Professor Zhonggang Wang—were selected for the list in the field of Traffic and Transportation Engineering.

Helai Huang is the Dean of the School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering at Central South University, a Second-Level Professor, and the Editor-in-Chief of the internationally authoritative journal in traffic safety, Accident Analysis & Prevention. He has been selected as a ‘Clarivate’ Global Highly Cited Researcher. In recent years, he has been dedicated to research on intelligent connected vehicle safety technology and has achieved fruitful results.

Hui Liu is the Vice Dean of the School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering and a Second-Level Professor. He has been selected for the Elsevier Highly Cited Chinese Researchers list for multiple consecutive years and is included in Stanford University’s list of the World’s Top 2% Scientists (ranking in the top 0.065% globally). His long-term research focuses on robotics and intelligent transportation equipment, vision-information fusion for intelligent mechanical system control, and industrial big data.

Jinjun Tang is the Deputy Director of the Department of Traffic and Transportation Engineering. He has been selected for the Elsevier Highly Cited Chinese Researchers list for three consecutive years and is included in the ‘Career-Long Impact’ list of the World’s Top 2% Scientists. His research is dedicated to using multi-source traffic flow detection data to mine the evolution patterns of urban road network traffic flow, analyzing the spatiotemporal characteristics of urban resident travel patterns using large-scale distributed trajectory data, and traffic congestion analysis.

Zhonggang Wang is a Leading Talent in Scientific and Technological Innovation in Hunan Province. He has been selected for the list of the World’s Top 2% Scientists and the Elsevier Highly Cited Chinese Researchers list. He is primarily engaged in teaching and research work in the areas of railway locomotive and vehicle structural strength and dynamics, impact dynamics, and composite material mechanics.

It is reported that a total of 5,801 scholars from 496 universities, enterprises, and research institutions were honored on this list. They have all made significant efforts to help the Chinese academic community grasp research opportunities and empower technological development and social progress.
