From September 27th to 28th, the 5th Central South University ‘International Young Scholars Xiangjiang Forum’ Transportation Engineering Sub-forum was held at the Tianxin Campus. The School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering selected 18 young scholars from countries and regions including Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, and Macau to participate in the forum. The event aimed to establish a high-level platform for academic exchange and mutual development for outstanding young talents from diverse disciplinary fields both domestically and internationally.
The forum officially commenced at 9:00 AM on the 27th in the meeting room on the 14th floor of the Century Building. Attendees at the opening ceremony included Qiu Fei, Deputy Director of the Talent Office of the University’s Personnel Department; Yuan Shiping, Secretary of the School Party Committee; Huang Helai, Dean of the School; Liu Hui, Vice Dean of the School; as well as directors of various departments (centers) and faculty representatives. The opening ceremony was presided over by Yuan Shiping, Secretary of the School Party Committee.

Deputy Director Qiu Fei provided a detailed policy interpretation covering the university’s general profile, talent position arrangements, and support conditions. This presentation fully demonstrated the university’s sincerity and attractiveness in talent recruitment and extended a sincere invitation to outstanding young talents worldwide. The university pledged to provide comprehensive support and guarantees for those who join, aiming to jointly plan a blueprint for development. Subsequently, Dean Huang Helai delivered a keynote address titled ‘Open Education, Utilizing All Talents, and Building a World-Class Discipline.’ He highlighted the recent development progress of the Transportation Engineering discipline from multiple perspectives, including the discipline overview, the school’s faculty team, talent cultivation, cutting-edge scientific research achievements, international influence, and the construction and directional layout of research platforms. This presentation fully showcased the school’s substantial strength and robust development momentum in the field of transportation engineering. Drawing on his own academic and professional experiences, Dean Huang also encouraged young talents to uphold the original aspirations of ‘quality, character, and sentiment,’ to examine and plan their career paths with a long-term perspective, and to choose platforms where they can realize their value.

Following the opening ceremony, the forum proceeded to the engaging academic presentation sessions. Dr. Ma Rui from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the United States, representing the international young scholars, and Professor Chen Zhengwei, representing the young faculty talents, successively delivered two high-level keynote reports. Parallel session presentations were held on the afternoon of the 27th and the morning of the 28th, with four department (center) directors or party secretaries from the school serving as session chairs. The presentations, totaling twenty in number, covered cutting-edge and hot topics in fields such as intelligent transportation, traffic safety, traffic signals and control, artificial intelligence, transportation big data, and vehicle transport. These reports fully demonstrated the academic innovation vitality within the field.

With this, the 5th Central South University ‘International Young Scholars Xiangjiang Forum’ Transportation Engineering Sub-forum successfully concluded. This forum not only established a high-level academic exchange platform for young scholars worldwide but also injected new momentum into the school’s talent recruitment and strategic development. Looking ahead, we look forward to collaborating with global talents to jointly contribute wisdom and strength to the construction and development of the Transportation Engineering discipline.
