From October 17 to 19, the Fourth International Conference on Industrial Aerodynamics was successfully held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Qingdao. Themed “Innovation Leads the Future, Cooperation for Win-Win Development,” the conference was organized by the Chinese Society of Aerodynamics and co-hosted by more than ten institutions including CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd. and Central South University. Over three hundred experts and scholars from China, the United Kingdom, Italy, Canada, and other countries gathered to engage in in-depth exchanges on the cutting-edge developments in industrial aerodynamics.

The participation of numerous authoritative experts from home and abroad highlighted the high level of international exchange at the conference. The conference chairs were Professor Tian Hongqi from Central South University, Professor Tang Zhigong from the China Aerodynamics Research and Development Center, and CRRC scientist Ding Sansan. The event featured special invitations from internationally renowned scholars such as Professor Claudio Borri, President of the International Association for Wind Engineering; Academician Alan Edward Vardy of the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK; and Academician Ashraf El Damatty of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. Industry representatives, including Zhang Xinning from CRRC Group and Liang Jianying from the National High-Speed Train Technology Innovation Center, as well as academic experts like Professor Zhao Lin from Tongji University and Senior Engineer Guo Dilong from the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, contributed to a deeply integrated exchange landscape spanning industry, academia, and research.

During the conference, all agendas proceeded in an orderly manner, yielding fruitful academic exchanges. The opening ceremony also featured the launch ceremony of CRRC’s “Zhuolun·Fengchi” large model, showcasing the latest applications of artificial intelligence technology in the field of aerodynamics. The three-day event included keynote speeches and parallel session discussions, among other segments. Ten high-level invited reports were delivered, with experts such as Academician Vardy from the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK; Academician Damatty from the Canadian Academy of Engineering; and CRRC scientist and researcher Ding Sansan sharing their latest research findings. The conference also established four thematic parallel sessions, providing a platform for young scientists and technologists to present their work, allowing junior scholars to engage in high-level academic exchanges and learning.

The conference received a total of 167 academic papers, covering seven major research directions including railway aerodynamics, automotive aerodynamics, intelligent aerodynamics, and structural wind engineering. The specially established “Technological Innovation Achievement Competition” awarded one first prize, three second prizes, and six third prizes, demonstrating the innovative vitality of young scholars in the field. Beyond academic exchanges, attendees visited CRRC Sifang to tour high-speed maglev R&D bases such as the National Key Laboratory of High-Speed Maglev Transportation Technology, adding a practical perspective to the theoretical discussions through on-site inspections.

The successful hosting of this conference fully reflected the fruitful achievements of industrial aerodynamics in areas such as wind energy development, vehicle drag reduction and noise reduction, tunnel ventilation, bridge wind-induced vibration, and atmospheric pollution prevention and control, showcasing the vigorous vitality of the discipline’s development. The conference established a high-level exchange platform for global scholars, comprehensively demonstrating the latest progress in China in fields like high-speed rail transit aerodynamics, and further promoted the deep integration of industry, academia, and research, as well as international cooperation. Participating experts unanimously agreed that the conference was professionally organized, rich in content, thorough in exchanges, and fruitful in outcomes. Through innovation leadership and win-win cooperation, it injected new momentum into the development of industrial aerodynamics, holding significant and far-reaching importance for advancing innovation and application in the field.
