School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering Holds Major Discussion on Discipline Development

On the afternoon of April 24, a major discussion meeting on the development of the Traffic and Transportation Engineering discipline was held in Room 119 of the Traffic Building. Peng Cheng, Deputy Director of the Development Planning and Discipline Development Office of Central South University, and Yang Lingyun, a section-level staff member, attended the meeting to provide guidance. The meeting, themed “Stimulating Endogenous Motivation, Accelerating First-Class Development,” was chaired by Huang Helai, Dean of the School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering. Attendees included Yuan Shiping, Secretary of the School’s Party Committee; Vice Deans Peng Yong, Han Kun, and Liu Hui; Yao Song, Director of the Professor Committee; Zou Yanghua, Director of the Office; Zhang Jiaqi, Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Office; heads of various departments (centers); as well as young faculty and student representatives.

Dean Huang Helai outlined the school’s approach to solidly promoting interdisciplinary integration, strengthening talent team building, fostering technological innovation and development, and stimulating the vitality of discipline development. Vice Dean Liu Hui reported on the progress of various discipline-related tasks and the notable achievements in development. Participants engaged in lively discussions based on their own teaching, research, and learning experiences, focusing on how to improve the efficiency of discipline development funding, how to implement the “One Discipline, One Policy” action plan in detail, and how to leverage resources and opportunities to advance the development of the Traffic and Transportation Engineering discipline.

Deputy Director Peng Cheng highly praised the School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering for its achievements in Party building and ideological education, talent cultivation, scientific research, and social services. He also fully affirmed the “One Discipline, One Policy” discussion event. Deputy Director Peng emphasized the importance of top-level design in discipline development, clarifying development challenges, fostering synergy between faculty and students, and exploring new growth areas. He pointed out that the discipline should further identify potential breakthroughs and consider institutional mechanisms conducive to advancing discipline development.

Finally, Yuan Shiping, Secretary of the School’s Party Committee, expressed gratitude on behalf of the school for the long-term care and guidance from the university regarding the development of the Traffic and Transportation Engineering discipline. He stated that the school would unite and strive for upward development, aiming to build the discipline by leveraging both internal and external resources. He emphasized the commitment to conducting substantive discussions on discipline development and transforming the outcomes of these discussions into a powerful driving force for the discipline’s progress, thereby promoting the connotative and high-quality development of the Traffic and Transportation Engineering discipline.
